Field Trips at Butterfly Biosphere

As Utah’s only butterfly conservatory and insectarium, Butterfly Biosphere at Thanksgiving Point is an experience unlike any other!

From March through May 2027, exciting updates will be taking place at Butterfly Biosphere! During your field trip, some areas may be unavailable due to renovations, but there will still be plenty to explore.

EXPLORER PLUS FIELD TRIP

CURRICULUM-BASED ACTIVITY AND SELF-GUIDED TOUR THROUGH THE Biosphere FOR SCHOOLS

Who it’s made for:

  • Elementary School students

 

Price:

$5 per student

Description:

  • 40-student minimum to qualify for an Explorer Plus Field Trip rate
  • 1 free adult for every 5 students
  • One free teacher per class
  • Extra adults will be charged $6 and must arrive with the group and be paid for in one transaction
  • Includes a 25-minute facilitated activity based on SEEd standard for each grade level:

    • Kindergarten – Survival Students will discover what it takes for a living thing to survive.

    • 1st Grade – Like Your Parents Students will discover how insects are different as they change into parents.

    • 2nd Grade – Habitats Students will observe the differences in habitats.

    • 3rd Grade – Life Cycles Students will observe the changes of the life cycle of insects.

    • 4th Grade – Why Insects Can Survive? Students will discover the internal and external structures of insects that help them to survive.

    • 5th Grade – Decomposers Students will discover how decomposers return matter to the environment.

    • 6th Grade – Stability of the Ecosystem Students will discover how the stability of the ecosystem can be affected even by a Monarch Butterfly.

  • 2-hour, self-guided admission with provided activity. For groups with more than 4 classes, potential scheduling accommodations can be arranged as a part of the field trip request process.
  • Not available between June and August

DISCOVERY FIELD TRIP

A SELF-GUIDED tour through the biosphere FOR OTHER EDUCATIONAL GROUPS

 

Who it’s made for:

  • Preschool students
  • High School students
  • Home School/Online School students
  • Clubs, After-School, Post-High School Programs, etc.
  • College/University students

 

Price:

$7 per student and adult

 

REQUEST DISCOVERY FIELD TRIP

 

Description:

  • One teacher/coordinator admitted free with field trip
  • 5-student minimum to qualify for a Discovery Field Trip rate
  • Preschool, K-Middle School: 1:5 chaperone ratio required for safety and supervision
  • High School: 1:10 chaperone ratio required for safety and supervision, 75 students maximum without prior approval
  • You may bring more than the 1:5 ratio for the same rate
  • 2-hour self-guided admission
  • Thanksgiving Point Members may use their membership for admission to Discovery field trips. During the scheduled 2-hour field trip, all attendees are expected to follow field trip guidelines and expectations.
  • Not available between March and May
