LEHI, Utah (June 20, 2022) – To celebrate National Make a Difference to Children Month, Thanksgiving Point will be gifting memberships to children and families in need for the entire month of July. Every week, a Family Membership will be donated to families with children experiencing difficult circumstances.

Observed every July since 2006, National Make a Difference to Children Month provides awareness of adversities children may face and highlights the importance of mentors in a child’s life. Thanksgiving Point hopes to provide opportunities throughout its venues for children to meet mentors that may inspire them to pursue a career in STEM.

“With a Family Membership, children who may not get the opportunity to interact with our discovery centers can visit them for free as many times as they want,” says Thanksgiving Point CEO McKay Christensen. “They can learn about fossils with our paleontologists, meet a tarantula with help from our entomologists, or milk a cow at our farm. They can discover what they’re passionate about and learn how to pursue those passions in their future.”

Children and their families may be nominated by friends, family members, teachers, neighbors, or themselves. The qualifications for nomination are (1) children experiencing life-altering circumstances, (2) children who demonstrate curiosity, resilience, and bravery, and (3) children between the ages of 3 and 18.  Nominators may fill out the form for as many children as they want or see fit.

Every Friday in July (July 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29) and the first Friday in August (August 5), Thanksgiving Point will announce the recipients of the Family Memberships on social media. One membership will be awarded each week. Recipients will be randomly selected from a list of nominated children who demonstrate the three qualifications above.

Nominations will be accepted from June 20 to August 1. Recipients will be contacted on the Wednesday before the public announcement and may choose to remain anonymous. For more information, or to nominate a child, please visit thanksgivingpoint.org/national-make-a-difference-for-children-month.
